The Laman Street Figs Saga

It’s been an ongoing debate for some time and it looks like there won’t be a resolution until next month at the earliest.
Newcastle City Council has already voted 12 times on the controversial fig trees which line Laman Street.
The handling of the ongoing issue has been criticised by numerous bodies and politicians.
Premier Barry O’Farrell has even offered to provide an arborist who could resolve the issue once and for all, but the Council has been unable to agree on whether or not to accept.
Now the trees have been saved for a bit longer by yet another injunction provided by the Land and Environment Court.
The injunction prevents the destruction or removal of the trees until the final determination of the proceedings, which will take place on December 5 and 6.
Save Our Figs Spokesperson, Fee Mozeley, said although this is good news for the Figs, some work still needs to be done.
