Storm updates

The Forecast severe weather with a dumping of a month’s worth of rain in a single day has put emergency services on notice with fears parts of the Hunter could experience flash flooding.

Parts of the Hunter can expect between 150 and 200mm of rain.

We will keep you up to date on-air and post as much information as we can here throughout the day. All information we deem correct at time of posting/ airing.


A detailed severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for the Maitland, Cessnock and Newcastle areas AND heavy rain along with thunderstorms are expected in Charlestown, Boolaroo and Lake Macquarie by around now and Newcastle City, West Wallsend and Cardiff by 2:25 pm.

We also have reports that some stormwater drains are starting to rapidly fill up around Tighes Hill and Wallsend areas.

Plattsburg Public School is evacuating their students, so parents are being asked to pick up their children.

Dungog High School students have been sent home early due to the weather conditions.

Meanwhile some of Newcastle City Council services have been stopped due to conditions. Fort Scratchley and Summerhill Waste centre are closed.

Several roads around the area are experiencing minor flooding .. remember if its flooded do not enter the water.

CARDIFF: Flash flooding is affecting Main Road at Fern Valley Road. Traffic is affected in both directions. Emergency services are on scene.
TARRO: Flash flooding Is affecting the New England Highway near Quarter Sessions Road. Traffic is affected in both directions.
MAYFIELD WEST: Minor road flooding around Industrial Drive, towards the Tourle Street bridge.
MAYFIELD EAST: Water over road in Kitchener Parade.
KOTARA – Park Avenue
DUNGOG: Minor isolated flooding in parts of Dungog.
SANDGATE: Reports of issues along the Maitland Road area between Sandgate and Hexham.
ELERMORE VALE: Croudace Road near Primary School
GATESHEAD: Pacific Highway is closed north bound, Oakdale Road is closed.
EDGEWORTH: Main Road near Impala St .. traffic affected in both directions.
WARNERS BAY: King Street is closed. Partial flooding on John Street.
BARNSLEY: Weir Road is closed. Water is over Appletree Road.
CROUDACE BAY: Water is over Bareki Road.
TERALBA: The corner of William and York Streets is partially flooded.
BOORAGUL: Water is over the Five Islands Road Roundabout.
EAST MAITLAND: Chisholm Road is partially flooded.
ABERGLASSLYN: Aberglasslyn Road closed.
LOUTH PARK: Mt Vincent Road closed.
