Homeless Man Assaulted at Cessnock

Police are appealing for information after a homeless man was assaulted in Cessnock yesterday morning.

The 45-year-old was sleeping in a tent on the Elcom Fire Trail around 5am when he heard a motorbike nearby.

Two men then entered the tent, demanded his vehicle and keys and assaulted him with a baseball bat.

The pair made off with the man’s wallet and his Mitsubishi Pajero.

Police are now looking to speak with the two men; they’re described as being of Caucasian appearance and aged in their 30s.

They were last seen wearing dark clothes and motorbike helmets.

They’re also looking for the four-wheel-drive; it’s a white 2000 model with NSW registration AIB 56K.

The victim has been treated for shoulder and back injuries at Cessnock Hospital.
