COVID-19 WATCH

Newcastle and the Hunter remain under stay-at-home orders with the exception of the Singleton, Muswellbrook, Dungog and Upper Hunter Shire LGA’s.

Everyone in the areas under stay-at-home orders must stay at home unless it is for an essential reason and cannot have visitors.

People still can have one visitor at one time to fulfil carers’ responsibilities or provide care or assistance, or for compassionate reasons, including where two people are in a relationship but do not live together.

The region will start to open up from October 11, when the entirety of NSW reach the 70 per cent double dose vaccination target.

The freedoms are only for those who are double dose vaccinated and including having five people in your home, up to 20 people gathered outdoors; hospitality, retail, personal services and gyms will reopen; major events will be able to go ahead, as will weddings, funerals and places of worship and domestic travel will be allowed.

The domestic travel is not allowed for anyone from Sydney, the Central Coast, Blue Mountains, Shellharbour or Illawarra.

There are rules for all of those freedoms.

From the Monday after NSW hits the 80 per cent (aged 16 and over) double dose vaccination target, eased restrictions will allow those who are fully vaccinated to have up to 10 people visit their home, participate in community sport, and access hospitality venues (where drinking while standing up will be allowed indoors). All premises will operate at 1 person per 4sqm indoors, and 1 person per 2sqm outdoors.

More on COVID-19…

Here is some information on the Covid-19 Pandemic that we feel you need to know and may be useful.

WHAT IS IT

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new virus. The disease causes respiratory illness (like the flu) with symptoms such as a cough, fever, and in more severe cases, difficulty breathing.

HOW IT SPREADS
Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth. You can protect yourself by washing your hands frequently, avoiding touching your face, and avoiding close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell.

PREVENTION

You can protect yourself and help prevent spreading the virus to others if you:

What to do:
  • Wash your hands regularly for 20 seconds, with soap and water or alcohol-based hand rub
  • Cover your nose and mouth with a disposable tissue or flexed elbow when you cough or sneeze
  • Avoid close contact (1 meter or 3 feet) with people who are unwell
  • Stay home and self-isolate from others in the household if you feel unwell
What NOT to do:
  • Touch your eyes, nose, or mouth if your hands are not clean

Feelings of worry and unease can be expected during a stressful event, but it’s important to manage our stress before it turns into more severe anxiety or panic. It’s times like this we all need to look after each other and help those struggling on their own.
