Sign up and learn life saving skills in this great course!
The standard first aid course provides you with the skills to assist people in an emergency, however it does not teach the skills often required to save the lives of people with disabilities . The 10735NAT Course in Disability First Aid uses the principles of first aid and teaches you to recognise and apply the variants required for a person with a disability. It uses a combination of theory and practical elements, providing critical skills in the following key areas:

CPR in a bed
Recognition and assistance for Autonomic Dysreflexia
Choking in a bed
Consent and communication in a disability setting
Choking in a wheelchair
Pressure sores and infection signs
How to use a bag valve mask (BVM) during CPR
Recognising and responding to depression and suicide warning signs in a disability setting

See over 150 breeds of dogs on display at the six Dog Shows that will take place over three days at the Newcastle Winter Spectacular from Friday August 5th to Sunday August 8th.
Located at the dog showgrounds on Hillsborough Road Hillsborough. Come and see the dogs and talk to the breeders. There is an excellent cafe on the ground for refreshments and the public are welcome free of charge.

Friends of Grossmann & Brough Houses, 71-73 Church St, Maitland invite you to a free exhibition of the extraordinary work of our Artist in Residence, Ellen Howell. For the past 3 months, Ellen has sought inspiration for her work from the historic items in our museum collection and the lovely gardens surrounding the houses. Exquisite items woven from hand-dyed silk thread, block-printed on the finest cotton using dye from the garden’s plants, and thread & copper wire woven vessels will amaze and delight. Open 10am to 3pm in Brough House each Saturday and Sunday in July, an experience not to be missed.

Australia’s world-class period ensemble returns to Lake Macquarie to perform three revolutionary symphonies in chamber form.
Join us for the dramatic, exciting and ravishing performance of Beethoven’s Eroica by The Australian Haydn Ensemble – Australia’s leading historically informed orchestra and chamber music groups.

Under the leadership of Artistic Director Skye McIntosh, nationally and internationally-lauded musicians will bring this historical performance to life. Just as the mass of a giant star increases as it grows smaller, these intimate renditions will surprise you with their intensity.

A bar will be operating with a selection of beer and wine, and a coffee and cake van will be onsite from 2pm.

Australian Haydn Ensemble – Beethoven’s Eroica is supported by the NSW Government through Create NSW.

The Victorian-era National Trust property, Grossmann House, is open for hourly house tours this Sunday,14th August, from 10:30am to 3:00pm, only a 5-minute walk from Maitland Railway, 71-73 Church Street, Maitland. Bookings on Eventbrite preferred but walk-in visitors also welcome. $10 Adult, $25 Family, $8 Concession and children over 5, Trust members and children under 5 free. Home-made refreshments and our famous jams and preserves also available.
Open on both Saturday and Sunday, in our mirror-image building, Brough House, visit the free exhibition, of stunning artworks themed ‘Caring for Country’, by local and other NSW school children as part of the annual Schools Challenge promoted by Reconciliation NSW.

Port Harmony’s concert entitled “Earth & Sky” will take our audience on a celestial journey of familiar songs from musicals and movies such as “Hair”; “Sound of Music”; “Mary Poppins”; “Beaches”, “The Muppet Movie”; the beautiful ballad “Fields of Gold”, the old favourites “Fly Me to the Moon” and “Moon River” and many more.

The concert “Earth & Sky” will be held on Sunday 14th August at 2.00pm at Soldiers Point Bowling Club (Auditorium), Soldiers Point. Doors open at 1.30pm. Tickets are $25.00 and are available from Soldiers Point Bowling Club (reception) and at the retail shoe shop “Queen of Sole” in Salamander Bay Square shopping centre.
