Dean Mackin has worked in an around radio for over 25 years. Originally getting involved in radio from the I.T. side of things, it was at 2SM in the mid 90’s that Dean met, and became friends with, Sydney radio legend Ian MacRae.
It was more than a decade later that Ian suggested Dean would be well suited to talk back radio and that he should consider doing a course at his radio school. Dean agreed and a week after graduating the Sydney based school had already found a job at Cool Country 2KA where he ended up working for 7 years. In 2010 however Dean moved from Sydney to the Central Coast and was simultaneously working in Sydney as well as doing the drive (then eventually breakfast) shift at 94.1FM in Gosford.
Dean was again a finalist for best country music DJ in 2013 and, as a result, met fellow finalist (and eventual winner) Carter Edwards. The two quickly became friends and soon after was working with Carter on Saturday and Sunday night as his producer at 2HD. Less than a year later Dean was offered the opportunity to fill in for Carter while he was away. Dean immediately knew that talk back radio was for him and almost immediately stopped working in music radio elsewhere. Within months of filling in for Carter Dean was offered a permanent Saturday afternoon shift and has been doing that since February of 2015.
Dean has been a finalist for an ACRA award in the “Best Talk Presenter” category in 2015 and 2016 and was also a finalist for “Best Producer – Talk and Current Affairs” for his work on the Carter Edwards show in 2016.
Dean narrowly missed out on becoming a Senator in the 2016 Federal election (on preferences) but his true passion is talk back radio. He continues to work with his good friend Carter Edwards every Sunday night and enjoys producing his program immensely. Dean very much appreciates the support and feedback of the callers, those who email & the listeners and looks forward to each and every on-air shift he does across the Super Radio Network.
