Arthur Papas has been named new head coach for the Newcastle Jets.

Papas has signed on for the 2021/22 and 2022/23 seasons and will get to work immediately.

The 41-year-old already worked with the club during the 2011-2012 season, as A-league assistant coach and head coach for the Jets youth team.

For the past two and a half years, Papas has been working in Japan – starting out as assistant to former Socceroos coach Ange Postecoglou before taking over the reigns at Kagoshima United.

Papas takes over from Craig Deans, who announced he’d be stepping down earlier this month after just one campaign due to burnout.

Deans will remain with the club in another capacity.
