Listener and Maitland shop owner, John Lee, phoned us after seeing a story in WA about shop keeper’s rights when it comes to defending yourself and your property. A 9 Year old boy allegedly was beaten and locked in a store room by supermarket staff worker at a local IGA in Perth after he stole a can of soft drink. A similar incident happened to John 17 yrs ago where he detained a thief at his business in Maitland and was charged. We followed this up with President of the Newcastle Law Society Gary Fox who explained to Richard & Kim the laws on protecting one’s property and business.
